APPOINTMENTS FOR EXAMINATIONS
Please call to make an appointment for an examination by one of our physicians. Our receptionist will make an appointment for you. Please bring to your first examination all your current documents, such as findings, x-rays, reports of operations, and MRI images.
COURSE OF TREATMENT
At the first appointment, the course of treatment will be determined (conservative or an operation).
If an operation is necessary, a date for it can be set as early as the first appointment. The operating physician will explain to you how the operation goes, and our anesthetist will tell you about the anesthesia. Patients who have a long way to travel or patients from abroad can also speak to the operating physician by telephone.
OPERATION
On the day of the operation, the patient should arrive fasting at our operations center at the appointed time. Please do not forget your documents (findings, x-rays, MRI images). For outpatient operations, you will remain for 2-3 hours in our recovery room. You should bring along a companion to take you home. We place inpatients in our private clinic (Klinik 2000 GmbH) or in the Diakonie Hospital. Upon discharge, you will receive a report of the operation and a written plan for ongoing treatment. Appropriate prescriptions (such as for physical therapy and medications) will be given to you. If desired, follow-up monitoring visits may be set up with the treating physician (the operating physician). However, ongoing treatment can also be provided by your family physician or the referring physician.
FOLLOW-UP TREATMENT
In most ankle operations, follow-up physical therapy is necessary. Our inpatients are taken care of by our own physical therapy department. Outpatients can make appointments there as well. In larger ankle operations, such as axial corrections or ankle implants, we recommend 2-3 weeks of inpatient rehabilitation, which we will be glad to set up for you. There are cooperative agreements with rehabilitation clinics in our area.
BILLING
HEALTH FUND PATIENTS
Costs for treating health fund patients will be taken care of by the health insurance funds. Inpatients are operated on in our clinic and then transferred to the Diakonie Hospital. These costs are covered by your health fund.
Most of the physicians in Praxisklinik 2000 are admitted to a health fund. Outpatient treatments are covered by the public health insurance funds. Inpatient treatment in our private clinic is not covered by the public health insurance funds, and that is why our inpatients are covered through the Diakonie Hospital.
PRIVATE PATIENTS
Payments for private patients for the examination, the conservative or operative treatment, and the anesthesia are covered by a private invoice to the patient directly. The physician's bill follows the Ordinance on Fees (GOÄ). We calculate the fee for inpatient treatment with total case fees, which are set according to what are called DRGs (total case fees). The private insurance funds generally reimburse treatment costs in the clinic. In very expensive operations, in individual cases we may set special fee agreements, which we set up with your insurance company.
PATIENTS FROM ABROAD
We are treating an increasing number of patients from abroad. In most cases, we can give suggestions for treatment on the basis of your documents and telephone consultations. If an operation is planned at Praxisklinik 2000, the pre-operative examinations (such as laboratory and x-ray) can be taken care of at our clinic on the day before the operation. If you desire it, we can help you with your plans for the trip (for example, booking flights and hotels). It is highly recommended that you wait several days after an operation before returning home. Payment for patients from abroad generally takes place on the basis of complex case charges (DRG). These charges include all the costs, including payment for the operating physician and the anesthetist, cost of supplies, inpatient stay, physical therapy, orthotic devices, walking devices, etc. If the patient so desires, the costs for an additional multi-week stay in our rehabilitation clinic can also be included in the total case cost.
