Consultant orthopaedic surgery

Born on 23rd August 1947 in Naumburg/Saale as the son of the obstetrician Walter Kentsch and the dermatologist Elisabeth Kentsch, I have spent my childhood and adolescence in Lindenberg/Bavaria.

In 1967 I have finished High School. From October 1967 until March 1969 I have served my military duty for the German Army.

In April 1969 I have started Medical School in Hamburg. Later on I went to Tübingen and Munich and finished successfully at the university of Freiburg im Breisgau in November 1974.

During summer of 1972 I have spent two months of internal stage as a medical student at the Department of General Surgery in Luzern, Switzerland and two further months in Paris at the University Hospital St. Antoine.

Since 1997 Work in private practice in Freiburg, Praxisklinik 2000, as a consultant for orthopaedic surgery. Our main topics are reconstructive surgery of all joints and traumatology of sports as well as the treatment of posttraumatic disorders and osteoarthritis. Furthermore I am consultant for orthopaedic surgery at the Klinik Dr. Becker in Bad Krozingen, a private hospital for traumatology and at the Klinik Birshof in Basel/Switzerland, which belongs to the Hirslanden Group, the biggest private hospital group in Switzerland.


Since 1978: I have published numerous papers in german and international journals and I have given many lectures in Europe and overseas. I have participated and helped to organise many instructional courses.

1980 My first participation at an AO-course in Davos, Switzerland, where I am invited instructor for the international english speaking advanced course since 1985.

1985 Co-organisation of the ESSKA-congress in Basel, Switzerland.

1992 Organisation of the international knee congress and anatomy course, also in Basel.

In 1994 I have helped to organise the anatomy course at the ESSKA-congress in Berlin. There I also had to give a presentation and could demonstrate an ACL-reconstruction with BPTP in the original technique of Werner Müller live on TV in vivo. Beneath the organisation of instructional courses I have demonstrated operative techniques of modern orthopaedic surgery in Germany, Switzerland, Italy, France, Spain, Sweden, Greece, Tansania and Bahrein.

Since 1985 Tournament-physician at the Davidoff Swiss Indoors, Basel, a 1 Million Dollar event of the ATP


Since 1995 I am a regular visiting Doctor in Saudi Arabia.

Besides orthopaedics, which is my true passion, I am strongly interested in modern art and I like sports, mainly alpine skiing and tennis.

I believe in friendship, teamwork, scientific dialogue and truth.
